Samantha Rensvold

You might have seen the valedictorian of this year, Samantha Rensvold, worked her way to the top by keeping up good grades while staying active in sports and school clubs.
“Being valedictorian shows all the hard work I’ve done over the years,” she said. “It means a lot to me and shows I can be a well-rounded student.”
She didn’t expect to earn the title after getting a B her freshman year in graphic design. “I didn’t think I would get valedictorian,” she said. “But I kept my grades up and stayed focused.” From that point on, she earned straight A’s.
Rensvold said her father motivated her during the early years of high school, and her friends helped her stay on track with assignments when she missed school for activities. “They could help move me in the right direction if I was confused on something,” she said.
Her favorite classes were with Mrs. McConnell and Mrs. Venters in Advanced English. “I’ve become a better writer because of them,” she said.
For her senior project, she is producing a graduation video with short interviews of her classmates. It will play on repeat before the ceremony for everyone to enjoy. “It’s my ‘Pirate Pursuit’ project, something that really means a lot to me.”
After graduation, Rensvold plans to attend Spokane Falls Community College to play softball, and hopes to transfer to a four-year university later. “The dream is to go pro,” she said.
